Daughters Love – A Mother’s Love…
Thank you so much for stopping by the site. My name is Charlotte Sellers and I am Sandy’s Mom.
I started the Sandy Sellers Copley Memorial 5K Run for many reasons. Sandy was born and raised in Southampton, PA. She graduated from William Tennent High School in 1985, and raised her own family for the past 18 years in Collegeville, PA where she worked as a hairdresser at the Hair Cuttery. Sandy was a wonderful daughter, mother, sister, aunt and friend.
She died on June 25, 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 43. As her mother I didn’t want anyone to forget my daughter, and I thought a fitting memorial to Sandy would be a 5K run. I know she would have liked her name and energy connected to an annual event that would benefit the cause to rid our world of childhood cancer. As a result, all proceeds from this annual 5K run are donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. That was always her favorite charity, and something even despite her own illness held a special place in her heart.
Sandy always said “No child should ever have cancer”.
My daughter was an avid runner and was herself planning to run a marathon when her leg swelled and it was discovered shortly thereafter that she had cancer. We were all confident her treatments and subsequent surgeries were going to cure her, so she could run again. We never ever thought she would die. Her courage and determination were awe-inspiring. Sandy agreed to have her right leg amputated on March 25th 2010, in order to save her life. But a few months later, God chose her to be one of his angels. I would like to think she is in heaven now, running that marathon in golden running shoes!
My biggest desire was for no one to forget Sandy. It was my hope that her name and her love of children would live on with this event every year.
So in her name, with the love and support of my family and friends I started the Sandy Sellers Copley Memorial 5K Run along the Perkiomen Trail in beautiful Spring Mount, PA.
I can never truly thank everyone enough for their support. While we won't we holding the event any longer, I ask that you please keep my Sandy in your thoughts and prayers, and should you be so inclined, you are welcome to continue to donate to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, in her name.
